  • Readymade cake pop mix (crumbled cake with frosting) chilled
  • Wilton square fondant cutters
  • 1 butter knife
  • 1 Wilton Candy Melt bottle
  • 1 pack of Wilton candy eyes
  • Yellow candy perils, gum balls, or m&m minis for his nose.
  • 1 bag of Yellow Wilton or Makin Molds Candy melts
  • 1 bag of  Chocolate Wilton or Makin Molds Candy melts
  • 1 Chocolate melting pot or double boiler
  • 1- 12 ounce pack of Wilton lollipop sticks
  • ½ cup Crisco shortening
  • 2 spatulas
  •  Saran wrap
  • 1 cake pop stand of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Parchment paper
  • Pink gloves-just kidding any shade
  • 12 inch or larger cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or saran wrap
  • 1 teaspoon
  • 1 bag of Ready to use Wilton fondant 1.5 lb
  • 1 bag of  ready to use Wilton gum paste 1lb
  • Blue and black food writer markers

Step 1: Pack pre-made cake pop mix starting from a corner up to half of your pre-lined cookie sheet.   (Crumbled cake + frosting=cake pop mix).  Place it in the freezer for a few hours or overnight for better results.  When ready to use allow it to thaw out for 5-10 minutes no longer. Your chocolate melting pop should be on with your Wilton Chocolate melts with that process started. Take your square fondant cookie cutter and press down firmly to cut out a square cake pop from your cookie sheet. Use your butter knife if necessary to remove the square cake pop.  Take your lollipop stick and dip the tip into the chocolate melting pop.  Take that same tip and stick it about quarter of an inch into your square cake pop.  Place your cake pop back onto the cookie sheet for the dipped stick to harden up into your cake pop.

Step 2: Continue off from the first step of dipping the cake pops in the melting pop completely submerging it. After dipping each pop, gently place it on the lined cookie sheet to harden up.  If you have any remaining chocolate you can pour it out into a container for later use. You can use the leftover chocolate to dip apple slices, orange slices, pretzels, strawberries, etc.  Wash your chocolate melting pot or double boiler to add the yellow candy melts.

Step 3: At this step we are double dipping our cake pops. You are going to dip each chocolate covered cake pop down into the yellow candy melts covering each cake pop by 75%.  This leaves out enough brown chocolate for his pants bottom.  If your cake pop is too heavy and you find that it’s breaking off the stick then your chocolate is too thick. To alleviate this, add vegetable shortening. Remember to tap off any excessive chocolate on the inside of the cake pop.  After you have completed double dipping the cake pops place them in the refrigerator to harden up for 10 minutes. Take your left over chocolate from the pot and pour it slowly into the Wilton candy melt bottle.

Step 4: Make a small mixture of 50% fondant and 50% gum paste.  You are going to knead the fondant and gum paste together.  Afterwards, separate them into two separate balls.  Use food coloring to dye one of the balls red and leave the remaining ball white. Take your blue food writer marker to outline the blue color on each candy eye about half a moon around the pupil.  Tip: keep a small bowl of warm water handy in case your food writer dries up. It’s challenging to draw on candy and cake pops.  From the white ball of fondant, roll it out with a mini fondant/dough roller and using a butter knife cut strips. You can even use a food safe scissors to cut small strips.  The strips should be long enough to wrap around sponge Bob’s waist as his pants belt. Use the chocolate in the melting bottle as an adhesive to attach the belt to the cake pop. Pinch a small amount of red fondant in your fingers to make his tie.  Use the chocolate in the melting bottle as an adhesive to attach his tie to the cake pop.  Use your black food writer draw Sponge Bob’s eye lashes. Use your black food writer to draw his mouth.

Missed tip: in the video I didn’t state it but I used white fondant to make his teeth. Or you can use mini white chick let’s to make a buck tooth appearance.
